It’s a happy day when my HGTV magazine arrives in the mail. I love looking at all the beautiful pictures of homes. Everything looks so bright and refreshing.
Their secret to presenting a beautiful room is how well they unify it with color. The million dollar question is how do you get that same look in your home.
Start with a neutral palette.
Use what you have. The largest item in the living room is usually the sofa or a bed in the bedroom, anchoring the rooms. If your sofa is beige, white, or grey, it makes a great starting point for your room.
TIP: Even dark-colored furniture, such as a black leather sofa has a refreshing look by using reflective accents such as silver picture frames, a metal base coffee table with a travertine top.

Add an accessory you love.
If you have a heirloom painting that you love or lamps that make your heart sing, be sure to include that in your home. Make it the focal point. If it makes you happy, you will feel happy every time you enter the room.
TIP: Using accessories to add color makes your room fun and fresh without breaking the bank. Pillows and vases can easily move from room to room.

Repeat the color palette.
Take a cue from your favorite accessory and build from there. If you’re painting has orange, repeat shades of orange in other accessories such as in your curtains and area rug.
TIP: When repeating color accents, try varying the shade, pattern, and texture so it’s not too matchy-matchy. You want your room to look cohesive but not boring.
